Noir Absolu began as a mistake — a cask left too long, opened two winters late, and better for it.
The oud comes from one plantation in Assam that we have bought from since 2016. It is not the loudest oud available; it is the one that behaves. Around it we set leather tanned the slow way, and a rose dried rather than distilled, so it reads as memory instead of bouquet.
The base is where the eighteen months go. Black amber and labdanum need that long to stop arguing. Rushed, they sit on top of the skin and shout; rested, they sink and stay.
It is the only one of the six we have never reformulated.
